Embracing Diversity in Parenthood with Adoption Counts

At Adoption Counts we celebrate the uniqueness of every individual and we are proud to welcome the vibrant spectrum of families that make up our diverse society. As an adoption agency, our mission is rooted in the belief that every child deserves a loving and supportive home. We proudly embrace the principles of equality and inclusion, working to create an environment where LGBTQ+ individuals and couples can embark on the fulfilling journey of parenthood through adoption.

Our dedicated team of professionals is well-versed in the needs and concerns of LGBTQ+ prospective parents. We provide support, guidance, and resources to navigate the adoption process from the start. From the initial enquiry to the joyful day when a child becomes part of your family, we are committed to ensuring a positive and affirming experience.

We understand that building a family through adoption is a deeply personal and emotional journey. Adoption Counts is here to celebrate the richness of diversity within the LGBTQ+ community, valuing the strengths that each family brings to the table. Our commitment to openness, respect, and cultural sensitivity is reflected in our approach to matching children with loving families, creating bonds that last a lifetime.

How can I start the adoption process with Adoption Counts?

If you feel ready to adopt, you can talk to us to start your adoption journey and receive a free detailed information pack to read through. After that, you will be able to attend a free virtual information event – which will take you through the process step by step.

If you then feel like you are ready to start the journey, we will arrange an Initial Meeting with a Social Worker or Recruitment Manager. We will chat to you about your background, current circumstances, health and home life. It will help us to give you advice about your readiness to move on to the application stage.

Who are the children awaiting adoption?

Children are placed for adoption with the primary consideration being the best interests and welfare of the child. It's important to note that every adoption case is unique, and decisions are made based on a thorough assessment of the child's individual circumstances and needs. The goal is to provide children with a loving, safe, and permanent family environment where their needs are priority.

Most of the children awaiting adoption have left their families under difficult circumstances and most will have been in foster care, possibly having had a number of moves already. They come from a variety of different communities, ethnic and religious backgrounds, and some will have identified additional needs or disabilities.

It is important to know that there are certain groups of children who tend to wait longer to be adopted compared to others. These children may have specific circumstances that make finding a suitable adoptive family more challenging. We are particularly keen to hear from those who feel they could consider: sibling groups, children over 4 years old, from a Black African/Caribbean heritage and children with identified additional needs.
