“Family Pride MCR: Fun, Joy, and a Dash of Rain!"

On a day that started with a hint of drizzle (and ended with a downpour), our family embarked on an adventure filled with fun, enjoyment, and a dash of British weather unpredictability. We were off to Family Pride MCR, an event co-curated by Proud 2 b Parents, and let's just say we were in for an unforgettable day.

As we arrived at the Great Northern Warehouse, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and acceptance. It was a celebration of love, diversity, and family, and we couldn't have been more excited to be a part of it.

Our first stop was the main stage, where a massive sandpit beckoned, rain or shine (mostly rain). Families of all shapes and sizes gathered, and the joyful laughter of children echoed through the air. The stage came alive with performances, music, and dance that radiated positivity and pride, proving that a little rain couldn't dampen anyone's spirits.

Our daughter, her eyes wide with wonder (and maybe a bit of rain), couldn't resist the arts and craft activities. In a whirlwind of colors and creativity, she let her imagination run wild, creating masterpieces that would make any fridge proud.

Inside the storytime area, we were treated to tales that celebrated diversity and inclusion. Our daughter sat enthralled, soaking up stories that represented families like ours and taught the powerful lesson of acceptance.

But the real tearjerker moment came at the Queer lit book stall, run with love by Proud 2 b Parents. As parents, we'd often struggled to find children's books that mirrored our family's unique journey. Seeing the array of books that celebrated diversity, love, and authenticity was a heartwarming experience. It felt like a tangible representation of our family and a sign of the progress we've made.

As the day unfolded, we explored play areas and a massive train set that fired up our daughter's imagination and introduced her to new friends (who were also getting a bit wet). It was a reminder that love knows no bounds, and families come in all shapes, sizes, and weather tolerance levels.

The sense of community was palpable as we connected with other families who shared our journey. We swapped stories, shared laughter, and toasted to a future where acceptance and love triumph over all.

Leaving Family Pride MCR, our hearts were full, and our spirits were high. This incredible, free day out had etched itself firmly into our summer memories, raindrops and all. We eagerly look forward to next year, hoping that it remains an integral part of Manchester Pride, a celebration of love and acceptance that even the British weather can't dampen.

Our summer was brighter, our hearts fuller, and our commitment to authenticity and equality stronger, thanks to these incredible experiences. They remind us that love is love, and our family is family, no matter how it's defined.
