LGBT+ parenting
Over the last 10 years Proud 2 b Parents has seen a huge growth in LGBT+ parent-led families, is this part due to legislation and law changes, as well as societal views. While LGBT+ parenting is still stigmatized by some, research shows that children raised by same-sex parents are just as healthy, happy, and well-adjusted as those with heterosexual parents.
One major benefit of LGBT+ parenting is that it brings increased diversity to family structures. Every child deserves to grow up in a family where they feel loved and accepted, regardless of the gender identity or sexual orientation of their parents. LGBT+ parents can offer unique perspectives and life experiences that can enrich a child's upbringing and allow for a more diverse understanding of the world around them.
Of course, LGBT+ parents still face obstacles. Many sectors within society still discriminate against LGBT+ individuals and therefore this can affect the experiences that LGBT+ families face on their route to parenthood, and when they are parents/carers. In many places, LGBT+ parents have to complete extra steps or face additional scrutiny before becoming parents/ carers. This can be frustrating and discouraging, but it's important to remember our end goal which is a family unit with unconditional love and acceptance.
Overall, LGBT+ parenting is a beautiful and rewarding experience that gives freedom to children and a greater moral understanding of the world around them. While our society still has a long way to go in terms of accepting and supporting LGBT+ families, the tide is slowly turning, and more and more LGBT+ parents/carers are becoming visible each day.
